Yes, sequels are readymade, branded entertainment, which the audience already loves and looks forward to watching. The previous instalments of films like these have already achieved the popularity and success they aimed at, and they are now in repeat mode. This year, 18 sequels will hit cinemas and I believe, Annabelle 2, Transformers: The Last Knight, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Star Wars Episode: The last Jedi from Hollywood, and Baahubali: The Conclusion, Sarkar 3, Judwaa 2, 2.0 and Tiger Zinda Hai from Bollywood are blind bets as there are certain to succeed at the box office.

I think sequels will do well this year. The Indian audience is now very excited about sequels and the sequel culture. We are awaiting them in bulk. Judwaa 2, Golmaal Again and, of course, the huge Baahubali 2 will be sure-shot hits at the box office. There will, of course, be others that will do well but these three are the ones with maximum excitement.
The big opportunity, though, will be in the English sequels. There is huge excitement in India for the Marvel sequels and, of course, the Transformers franchise. So I expect Guardians Of The Galaxy, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Transformers: The Last Knight to do very well. Read more...
