Collector Thakur Bhim Singh (Amrish Puri) misuses his power and position to accumulate wealth for his wife Kaushalya (Rohini Hattangadi) and unborn child. On the other hand CBI Officer Satyadev Singh (Vikram Gokhale) is an honest, upright officer. Satyadev and his wife Gangadevi (Rakhee Gulzar) are also awaiting the arrival of their first child. Recently transferred to the town, Satyadev uncovers Thakur Bhim Singh's misdeeds; the evil Thakur eliminates him in front of Kaushalya who never recovers from the incident and commits suicide. A shattered Ganga Devi leaves the town while Thakur Bhim Singh adopts his brother-in-law Chintamani's (Gufi Paintal) son Monty (Bhupendra Singh). Sham (Chandrachur Singh) and Ghansham (Arbaz Khan) grow up and as destiny has it they get into a scuffle with Monty. A furious Thakur Bhim Singh reaches Ganga Devi's place to seek revenge only to discover that one of the boys is in fact his own son! An emotional drama about a mother's ultimate sacrifice 'Sham Ghansham' addresses issues close to the viewer’s heart.
