Khal Nayak Sequel Is Happening! Script Locked, Confirms Subhash Ghai

It’s official! Khal Nayak, one of the most iconic films of the ’90s, is getting a sequel. And we can already hear “Nayak nahi, khalnayak hoon main…" playing in our heads. Director Subhash Ghai recently confirmed that the script for the sequel is all done and dusted, and the team is now in the process of finalising the cast and crew.

Ghai told Times Of India, “Yes, the script is complete now and the rest of the cast and technicians will soon be finalised."

Khal Nayak released in 1993. Sanjay Dutt’s portrayal of the bad boy Ballu is still one of his most iconic roles to date, while Madhuri Dixit as Ganga stole our hearts. And of course, who can forget Choli Ke Peeche, the controversial-yet-chartbusting song.

The upcoming sequel is expected to feature a fresh cast. Ghai hinted that both Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit might return for special appearances. The new instalment will feature a fresh cast with newcomers, while the original stars, Madhuri and Sanjay, will probably make special appearances.

Khal Nayak is a 1994 action crime film written, directed, and produced by Subhash Ghai under his production company Mukta Arts Ltd. Khal Nayak hit theatres on 6 August 1993 and turned out to be a massive commercial success. At the 39th Filmfare Awards in 1994, the film bagged 11 nominations and went on to win in two categories — Best Female Playback Singer and Best Choreography.

The film revolves around sub-inspector Ram and his girlfriend Ganga as they set out on a mission to track down and recapture the escaped criminal Ballu. When Ballu refuses to spill any information about Roshan Da, mastermind behind several crimes, the investigation hits a dead end. Things take a turn for the worse when Ballu manages to escape police custody with the help of his gang.

Determined to clear Ram’s name, his fiancée and fellow officer, Inspector Ganga, steps up. She volunteers to go undercover and bring Ballu back. Disguising herself as a street performer, Ganga tracks him down and slowly starts gaining his trust. As they spend more time together, Ganga learns about Ballu’s troubled past and the events that pushed him into a life of crime.

In a twist of fate, Ballu starts to fall for Ganga, completely unaware of her real identity. But when the truth finally comes out, that she’s a police officer, he feels betrayed and lashes out. Despite his anger, Ganga stands firm in her mission and refuses to back down.
