Subhash Ghai On Saiyaara, Mahavatar Narsimha’s Success: ‘Good Stories Break Records’

In a big surprise for Bollywood, Saiyaara and Mahavatar Narsimha have become the unexpected box office winners, leaving behind star-packed films like Son of Sardaar 2, Dhadak 2 and Kingdom. And filmmaker Subhash Ghai has something to say about the film’s success. Taking to Instagram, the ace director shared a post, praising both films for breaking major myths in Indian cinema.

“So a myth in the mind of the Indian cinema business sector that Gen Z no more cries in love stories, especially ones with new actors and that people no longer take off their shoes at the theatre exit for animated mythology films. That proved wrong," he wrote.

Then, the filmmaker hailed both the blockbusters of the year, Saiyaara and Mahaveer Narsimha, for proving that “good stories break records even in 2025 and onwards." He added, “Let’s rethink that it is no wonder. We are still epic people. cinema is not economics- it’s an ART."

Subhash Ghai is not wrong at all. Saiyaara, a romantic drama starring newcomers, has clearly struck a chord with the audience, thanks to its gripping storyline and emotional performances. Meanwhile, Mahavatar Narsimha, a mythology-based animation, is also winning hearts for its spiritual connection.

Since its July 18 release in theatres, Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has broken box office records. On the film’s monstrous success, the filmmaker said that newcomers have always broken box-office records, and Saiyaara’s overwhelming performance is proof that one does not spend extra money on a good story. In a post on Instagram, he wrote, “Many new faces broke the records at the box office coz of an interesting character, good story, good director, great music."

He added, “Newcomers come with inspiring characters and with freshness and become stars. Let’s note it again."

Meanwhile, within three weeks of its release, Saiyaara has crossed the Rs 300 crore mark, taking the film industry by storm. The romantic drama, directed by Mohit Suri, is a passionate love story of an aspiring musician and a budding journalist.

As for Mahavatar Narsimha, the film is an animated devotional action drama. Despite being a film of the genre that rarely commands dominance in the Indian market, the film has achieved an unprecedented feat for an animated film in India.
