Subhash Ghai announces 'Dilip Kumar Scholarship' at Whistling Woods International
The announcement comes as a beautiful tribute for veteran and living legend Dilip Kumar on his 92nd Birthday Mumbai, December 11, 2014: To mark his respect for the living legend Dilip Kumar, with whom he had produced, written and directed three big blockbusters & evergreen classics, in the 80s and 90s VIDHATA, KARMA and SAUDAGAR; Subhash Ghai has instituted a scholarship in his name.
The Dilip Kumar Scholarship is to encourage aspiring talented youth to apply to study at Whistling Woods International (WWI). The scholarship will help the student receive two years of training free of cost.
Subhash Ghai, Chairman, WWI, said, Dilip sahib taught me to bring dignity to this profession of cinema and to bring a change in the Indian cinema culture by setting up a creative campus, where we produce innovating skills and great story tellers. This thought changed my life and I put all my health and wealth in setting up Whistling Woods, which is a globally renowned brand today, for the quality education it provides to 600 students each year. So this is the legend behind Whistling Woods and I am glad that my daughter, Meghna, came up with the idea to institute a scholarship after Dilip Kumar.
Dilip Kumar who has been hospitalized due to mild pneumonia, has been a big source of inspiration to Ghai and encouraged him to set up this international institute in filmmaking, communication & media arts. Incidentally Dilip Kumar had inaugurated WWI in 2006 with 80 students.
Meghna Ghai Puri, President, WWI said We have been providing several scholarships over the last five years at the institute on the basis of need and merit. However, this is the first time we have named a scholarship after a personality, and who better than a veteran like Dilip saab for this. This is indeed a beautiful tribute for veteran and living legend Dilip Kumar on his 92nd Birthday.
